The Arniston area, known as “Waenhuiskrans” is a stunning fisherman’s village with lovely rustic whitewashed thatched fishermen houses. A place to truly relax and rejuvenate, Kassiesbaai, a quaint , 200 year old restored fisherman’s village, is the oldest part of Arniston, and was declared a South African National Monument. It’ll take just a few minutes walk and you’re on the beach.

Offering wonderful sea views and a marvelous history of wrecks from the sea farers of bygone eras, the name Arniston actually comes from one of these wrecks which sank in 1815. The Bredasdorp Shipwreck Museum is a must-see if you are also enthralled with maritime history.
