This private game reserve is also known as Balule Nature Reserve, and it has an unfenced border with Kruger National Park. It offers visitors all kinds of bushveld accommodation and every chance to see the Big Five. Of course, as always, there are costly lodges that offer guests every comfort they want in the bushveld, but you don’t have to settle for these lodges if you would prefer something more affordable.
The beautiful nature reserve has the Olifants River flowing through it. The game reserve is 42,000 hectares of pristine bushveld and is located on the northwestern boundary of the Greater Kruger National Park. Actually, the nature reserve is just a short distance from Hoedspruit and is easily accessed by road or by air. It is a prime destination for safari lovers.
Balule is a sanctuary for endangered species, and the game reserve is dedicated to protecting and preserving the delicate ecological balance of flora and fauna. They are always busy conducting various conservation efforts too.
Balule doesn’t just operate as one game reserve. It is actually made up of several distinct regions, each with its own management teams and landowners. All the regions follow the
conservation and operational guidelines set by the Balule Nature Reserve Association
(BNRA).
Certainly, by being part of the Greater Kruger National Park helps expand the protected territory available to endangered species.
If you’re looking for safari accommodation in Balule Private Nature Reserve, you’ve got many options, from affordable rustic bush camps, family accommodation, couples’ accommodation and self-catering rondavels to fully catered luxury safari lodges.
Game Drives
Most of the lodges in the unfenced Balule Nature Reserve offer twice-daily open-vehicle game drives led by experienced rangers and trackers. If you are staying specifically at the public, electricity-free Balule Satellite Camp managed by SANParks, direct game drives aren’t operated right out of that tiny camp itself. But you can arrange guided game drives, night drives, or bush walks departing from nearby Olifants Camp or Satara.
