West is an old town, established way back in 1818. It is often referred to as the ‘capital of the Karoo’. Many travellers love to stop over in the town before they head down to the coast. The town has a rich heritage too, and it’s great to take a look at Chris Barnard’s house. Remember, he was a pioneering heart surgeon who spent his childhood in the town. Around the town, too is wonderful nature, and the Karoo National Park is one of these.
