Kuruman is the main town in the Kalahari region and is known as the oasis of the Kalahari. People are surprised at the greenness of the town, which has a permanent source of water from its mineral spring known as Die Oog or The Eye. This mineral spring delivers an unbelievable 20 million litres of water every day. Kuruman was also home to the well-known Robert Moffat, a Scottish missionary, who lived in the town and built the world-famous Moffat Church, which still exists today.
Because the town is situated on the main route to Namibia as well as being an important route toΒ Cape Town, it attracts many overnight visitors, and there are many good accommodation choices in the town, of which Riverfield Guest House is one. The guest house is well situated on the banks of the Kuruman River and has beautiful trees and gardens for travellers to restore and refresh themselves after their long journey.
