Shawu’s Hide – Welgevonden Private Game Reserve, Limpopo

The fantastic Welgevonden Private Game Reserve is found within the UNESCO Waterberg Biosphere Reserve. This magnificent sanctuary is just a 2 ½ hour drive from Pretoria. It’s hard to believe that such magnificence, with a fantastic mountain range, lies within reach of city dwellers.

At Welgevonden Game Reserve, we take responsibility for all the creatures that live on the reserve, and we don’t allow private vehicles, which lets us offer an intimate, immersive safari experience. So, in other words, once you’ve parked your car safely, you are taken from the gate to your lodge. Welgevonden is a Big 5 Game Reserve and also malaria-free.

Shawu’s Hide is beautifully situated in a very picturesque part of the reserve, and each new sunrise promises an awesome day. It offers family accommodation, so in other words, it is family-friendly safari accommodation.

Shawu’s Hide takes its name from a fantastic elephant – Shawu – whose wonderful nature allowed tourists close encounters with him. It’s only right that his name and character are honoured.
